She lived in the village of Marseille off the southeastern coast of France until she was 16, when she was betrothed to a very wealthy man named Alexander Martin. When she was delivered to his house by her father, followed by her meager farhouse dowry, a dazzlingly beautiful young man with strange red eyes took her into the house. After the wedding feast with all of his family who looked just like him, as she was delivered to his bedchamber, he pinned her against the wall and sank his sharp teeth into her soft, human shoulder. But when he began to drink her sweet blood, he looked into her agonized, yet still beautiful face, and stopped himself, thinking how could he ruin such beauty. She would be dazzling when she was an immortal. So he laid her gently on the bed and sat with her for three days, not breathing. When she awoke and felt the burning thirst in her throat, Alexander explained everything to her, but not why he spared her. She was disgusted with herself, and she and Alexander set out find a better life for themselves instead of preying on humans. They became best friends during their travels and began preying on animals. Since then, she and Alex have been living together in a small apartment in Forks, Washington.
